Somatic Resilience and Regulation: Early Trauma, Elective Module B
with Kathy L. Kain
& Stephen Terrell, PsyD, SEP

Survival, Social Responses, and Emotional Development

In response to requests from class participants, we have added optional Elective modules to the Early Trauma series. In each Elective Module we choose 3 topics to cover that will extend the information presented in the core program. For Module B, we will cover the main topics listed below. Each single topic could be its own workshop, but we will address the topics in sufficient detail for participants to feel they are oriented to the subject, have some pragmatic tools for working with these in the context of their trauma recovery practice, and understand where these topics fit in the overall context of recovery from early trauma.

There will also be time for discussion and review of previous course content, but we are planning to offer ongoing consultation/tutorial/study groups to support the further deepening of expertise in the course material. Information on those groups will be sent as we get it organized.

Each of these topics could be a freestanding workshop of its own. We are open to continuing to develop future modules and specialty programs that would allow us to go into more depth in any of the individual subjects of the Early Trauma modules. Please feel free to let us know of your interests and we will take that into account in our future planning and scheduling.

Topics for Module B:

  • Shame: Its implications for survival and as the driver for inhibitory responses (even of healthy responses). Building healthier interoceptive awareness, uncoupling shame from somatic awareness and sensation.
  • Reflexes (Moro, Babinski etc): How they support both survival responses and social relationship
  • Somatic patterns of survival: How highly organized, but dysfunctional, somatic patterns related to survival can be interrupted; Pre/Post-prodromes; relation to inhibition of healthy survival and social responses

Prerequisites

Must have completed all three modules of Somatic Resilience and Regulation after Early Trauma series, or Resilient Child series.
